Our Process

School District 123 is committed to continuous improvement and ensuring that every student is prepared for a successful future. To guide this effort, the School District 123 Board of Education engaged with a national strategic planning partner to develop a Portrait of a Graduate and a Strategic Framework to ensure students, staff, and schools thrive. This effort was driven by input from our entire community and grounded in best practices for future-focused educational planning.

Stakeholders shared insights through focus groups, interviews, and surveys, helping to articulate priorities and values.

Community Voice

Our strategic framework was shaped by input from the Oak Lawn and Hometown communities. Over 20 focus groups, interviews, and a survey of over 600 participants gathered diverse perspectives and highlighted key priority areas for growth. A Strategic Planning Committee of 25 members representing parents, teachers, and administrators reviewed this feedback to craft the plan. This collaborative effort ensures the Portrait of a Graduate and Strategic Framework reflects our community’s values and goals.

What We've Achieved

The process resulted in several key outcomes guiding our district’s future. The Portrait of a Graduate defines the skills, mindsets, and attributes every student should develop by graduation. Additionally, the Strategic Framework focuses on key goals and outcomes to be achieved. To support these goals, District 123 will create strategies and a Strategic Dashboard to track progress, share updates, and celebrate milestones with the community.

Turning Plans into Action

Completing the Strategic Framework is just the start of bringing our shared vision to life. Educators across our schools will begin aligning their plans to the district’s goals, ensuring every initiative contributes to our broader goals, objectives, and outcomes. Progress will be tracked and shared through a Strategic Dashboard, while ongoing conversations with students, families, and staff will ensure our efforts remain focused and meaningful.
